CENTRAL NYREGIONAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL
The Heart of New York
Community is at Our Core: Central New York is the heart of New York, and includes the Syracuse metropolitan area (Onondaga County), and Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, and Oswego counties. Historic trade routes, such as the Native American Mohawk Trail and the Erie Canal, intersected here and encouraged the sharing of ideas while fostering a sense of community. That heritage of collaboration can be seen today in vibrant, thriving communities connected by regional pride. Ranked in Forbes Magazine's 2010 Top 10 Places to Raise a Family, Central New York is more than a region – we are a community.
Central Focus on Emerging Technologies: Home to a wide range of economic sectors ranging from health care to manufacturing, financial services to transportation, Central New York draws strength from its diverse industries. The region has developed particular strength in emerging clusters such as bio-processing, medical devices, wireless devices and information technologies. We are poised to serve as a world leader in three increasingly critical sectors: biosciences, renewable energy and the sustainable production of high-quality foods and beverages.
A Hub of Knowledge: Central New York draws its economic strength from a highly educated, productive workforce and a significant concentration of colleges and universities as well as active trade associations. We are builders: medical, digital and electronic devices; precision metalworking; environmental systems; and advanced manufacturing. We share resources: through tourism and recreation; healthcare; and financial services. And we invite collaboration: learn more about our region by visiting the links below, and if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our office.
