Our Vision for the Central NY Region

Innovation and collaboration will create opportunity for all who live and work in Central New York. We will take ownership over our future; operate in a nimble, efficient and effective manner; and leverage our many assets – natural, agricultural, geographic, economic, educational, cultural, and human – to form a diverse, sustainable and globally competitive economy while preserving and enhancing our region’s treasured quality of life.

This vision has allowed the Central New York Regional Economic Development Council (CNYREDC) to be more collaborative as a region and between various sectors which previously worked in silos. The region received $500 million through the Upstate Revitalization Initiative (URI) for its strategic plan, CNY Rising. The REDC and URI funding has allowed for expansion of businesses in our community, investments in traditionally underserved neighborhoods, and the creation of hundreds of new jobs. This foundation of success over the past six years, including a successful URI proposal, is built on a steadfast commitment to the CNYREDC’s original three strategic goals:

  1. Strengthen Targeted Industry Concentrations that Leverage Unique Economic Assets;
  2. Improve Competitiveness in and Connections to Regional, National, And Global Economies;
  3. Revitalize the Region’s Urban Cores, Main Streets and Neighborhoods.

As well as, the three pillars of economic growth outlined in the CNY Rising:

  1. Invest in Key Growth Drivers;
  2. Build an Inclusive Economy;
  3. Develop Enablers of Prosperity.
