47 Cannon St in downtown Poughkeepsie repurposes the former vacant Dutchess County Board of Elections building into a mixed-use community development. The project, named RiverSong was approved in June 2022 by the Planning Board. The project was designed to leverage the new Poughkeepsie Innovation District ordinance which intends to increase population density, provide new economic opportunities and continue the revitalization of downtown. Once complete RiverSong will be a thriving project where people live, work, and play. Both temporary construction and new permanent jobs will be created. Phase 1 of the project will be specific to the existing building, and the commercial space. The project will convert the existing 10,000 sq ft space into an artisan beverage manufacturing facility and restaurant. Phase 2 of the RiverSong will be to build an additional 6 stories (8 total), comprising 66 new units, 10% of which will be affordable. Construction will be guided by "Green" building principles, including collecting stormwater to be used in a gray water system. We will also be employing ground source geothermal technology for cooling and heating.
