The Bushwick Starr respectfully requests funding for the construction of its new 5000 square foot performing arts venue and permanent home at 419 Eldert Street, Brooklyn NY 11237. This project will create a flexible, accessible venue for our theater's operations and programs with major improvements including: -Single story facility that improves accessibility for audiences and artists alike-Street-level lobby increasing visibility with its open box office (with gender neutral restrooms) and community event space-Larger footprint for dedicated production shop, rehearsal studio, greenroom, and administrative office-90-seat black box increasing capacity by 25%, with flexible seating configurations and adaptable eco-friendly equipment to transform our venue to each artist’s vision Construction is planned to begin in fall 2022, with projected reopening in fall 2023. The project expenses for interior and exterior construction include infrastructure upgrades (HVAC, plumbing, electrical); interior/exterior walls, flooring, faade, facility construction; finishings (lobby, seating, signage, custom fittings), and general conditions to complete the project safely and efficiently.
