Built in 1923 by Ellsworth Statler and said to have been the largest building in the state outside of New York City, the Hotel Statler was extremely innovative for its time. Over the years the building was renovated into offices and then a slow transition back into a hotel and an event center. Douglas Development has purchased the building and will renovate it into multi- family apartments and hotel rooms. The lower commercial floors will be used for office, parking, and event space. The renovation would specifically support the development of the basement parking garage. The rehabilitation of the Statler building will help continue the revitalization efforts in Buffalo’s downtown area.
