Long Island Jewish Medical Center will construct a green roof on the rooftop of the Cohen Children's Medical Center in Queens that includes plantings, surfacing, fencing, energy efficient LED exterior lighting, and a necessary extension of the existing elevator of the building to the rooftop. Once constructed, the Cohen Children's Medical Center will create a healing space where pediatric patients and families can bond with nature. In addition to these therapeutic benefits, the green roof will also have substantial environmental and economic benefits through decreased stormwater runoff and energy savings on heating and cooling costs.
