Prospect Park Alliance will replace the former Wollman ice skating rink and building with a state-of-the-art LEED certified recreation facility, including two skating rinks, three multi-purpose rooms, and expanded green space adjacent to a historic landscape restoration, designed by renowned architectural firm Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects (TWBTA). Lakeside will be seamlessly built into the surrounding landscape, preserving historic design while meeting the needs of a diverse contemporary urban community. Lakeside will be a national model for integrating cutting edge sustainable architecture into a public park. A "green roof" over all building structures will improve energy efficiency and eight acres of parkland (three acres of green space and five acres of water) will be introduced. A rainwater retention cistern, passive ventilation, and use of recycled and local materials are additional green components of the design.Lakeside will feature two skating rinks, one covered hockey sized rink, and one outdoor recreation rink, providing a total of 30,000 square feet of surface for ice skating in winter and roller skating in summer.
