Proctors (legally The Arts Center and Theatre of Schenectady), located in the City of Schenectady and a designated Heritage Area, is a performing arts center with a 2,700-seat National Register historic theatre. It is the centerpiece of the downtown arts and entertainment district and a major cultural and economic anchor of the downtown Schenectady redevelopment. Proctors features Broadway and diverse shows and celebrates its history with tours and a faithful restoration. The F.F. Proctor Theatre and Arcade is on the State and National Registers of Historic Places (1979 designation). The project will, over a two-year period, complete historic preservation work at Proctors that will include repairs, restoration and improvements to the theatre's ceilings, walls, side boxes, scagliola, balcony, mezzanine and orchestra areas; women's and men's lounges; and the Golub Arcade. The preliminary planning phase of the project has already been completed. The proposed project will fund the costs of construction for the project restoration elements named.
