Mohawk Valley Regional Economic Development Council Announces $8 Million Available for Community Renewal Projects
The Mohawk Valley Regional Economic Development Council (MVREDC) today announced it is calling on communities in the six-county Mohawk Valley Region to propose projects to apply for $8 million in Community Block Development Grant (CDBG) funds made available to the Council through the second round of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s Regional Council initiative.
The MVREDC, in partnership with New York State Homes & Community Renewal (HCR), will make $8 million in Community Renewal Fund resources available to eligible communities for housing rehabilitation, public infrastructure, public facilities and economic development activities, primarily for the benefit of low- to moderate-income individuals. Eligible applicants must be units of local government with populations of less than 50,000, or counties with fewer than 200,000 residents. Eligible applicants must apply on behalf of a business seeking CDBG funds for economic development purposes. Projects receiving CDBG funds will be expected to agree to contract terms by June 2013 and are required to be completed within two years.
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds are being provided to the MVREDC from HCR. The federally-funded CDBG program provides financial assistance to counties, cities, towns, and villages to help develop viable communities by expanding economic opportunities and providing decent, affordable housing.
The Council welcomes applications for all eligible activities and will place the highest priority on projects most consistent with its Strategic Plan, which can be found at www.regionalcouncils.ny.gov/content/mohawk-valley. The MVREDC is being supported in this initiative by its County Liaison Committee, a work group that includes economic development professionals from each of the six counties in the Mohawk Valley Region – Fulton, Herkimer, Montgomery, Oneida, Otsego and Schoharie.
Interested parties are asked to complete a pre-submission form by no later than 4 p.m. March 8, 2013.
